#NEVERSTANDSTILL

An artist's duty, as far as I'm concerned, is to reflect the times

--Nina Simone

Raianna Brown began studying dance at The Spelman Summer Dance Institute. As a teenager, she continued her training in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Modern, Acro, and Hip-Hop at Price Performing Arts Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Raianna is currently enrolled at the Georgia Institute of Technology as an Industrial Engineering major. During her tenure at Georgia Tech, she studied dance at Emory University.

Raianna has traveled across the country, training in New York with dancers from Alvin Ailey and in San Francisco with the renowned Alonzo King Lines Ballet company.  In summer of 2015, Raianna traveled to Sorrento, Italy with Staib Dance Company as a dancer and guest choreographer. Her political piece, “I Can’t Breathe,” was originally set on dancers at Emory University for the Black History Month Gala. Raianna continued to hone her choreographic skills at Emory University the following academic year choreographing for the student choreographer’s showcase, along with many other choreographic opportunities around Atlanta. She has been chosen as a choreographer for Dance Canvas's 2017 season: "Introducing the Next Generation."

In summer 2016, she had the pleasure of working with many professional artists and choreographers at the Earl Mosley Institute of the Arts (EMIA) in Connecticut. She worked with notable artists such as Rennie Harris, George Staib, Earl Mosley, Gregory Sinacori, Chloe Arnold, Jason Samuel Smith, T. Lang, and many more.  While studying at EMIA, Raianna was chosen as an Emerging Choreographer and created her latest work, “4 Hours,”a quartet, featuring dancers studying at EMIA.

Raianna  is currently dancing for the Georgia Tech Goldrush Dance Team and The Collective Dance Project. Additionally, Raianna is Co-founder and Artistic Director of RAIIN Dance Theater (RDT). RDT will premiere November 17th, 2017 at The Ferst Center for the Arts as a part of the GT Arts 2017-2018 Season.
